CHINA -2004 Three Paths to Expression: Printmakers from Central China

Three contemporary printmakers from the central China provinces of
Nanjing, Wuhan and Xian visited Washington for a state-wide exchange. For a month they exhibited artwork, shared techniques and ideas with Washington artists and met with state and local dignitaries.

Explaining ancient relics in modern terms, Chen Qi’s massive woodblock prints are
tours de force. His work is included in the collection of The Victoria and Albert Museum in London. One section of this print was exhibited in Three Paths to Expression. Born in Nanjing, China, Chen Qi is currently Dean of Multimedia College at Nanjing Arts Institute.

Jin Bao Ping, a lithographer, responds to the turbulent times that existed in China until recently, using horse images as symbols for freedom. The son of railway employees who named him ‘Bao Ping’ or peace in hope of a brighter future, he was Dean of the Lithography Department at the Xian Academy of Fine Arts. Currently he holds a similar position at Shenzhen University.
